MySQL has implemented many features directly in the internals of their software and have more recently allowed pluggable storage engines. The pluggable architecture is improving in MySQL, but now there is a way of doing more advanced features without changing the MySQL engine directly - the MySQL Proxy. With this proxy server, extra functionality can be obtained such as load balancing, query profiling and advanced logging. This talk looks at how these capabilities can be implemented and utilised while developing your database applications.
