In this presentation we will discuss how server side mashups can
be used as a powerful tool for quick and simple data integration
and the provision of new data services. Currently, most of the
focus is on mashups that reside on the client side. However,
that approach exhibits several shortcomings: For example in the
area of security, but also the inability to provide new services
in a generic and universally usable manner. After outlining the
differences between server and client side mashups, we will
present examples of services that have been successfully
implemented through the data integration provided by a server
side mashup. It will conclude with a more detailed example
explaining how to create a RESTful, simple server side mashup,
using an open source data integration project. This example also
presents a fully scriptable means for the creation of a server
side mashup, which gives the developer additional flexibility.
